The Adventure Begins in Costa Rica
Why Costa Rica
We would love you to join us in this gorgeous country for our wedding on March 23rd, 2007. Many people want to know why Costa Rica? Why have you chosen this place to have your wedding?
We know that marriage is a whole new territory, something neither one of us has ever undertaken. We think we should do our ceremonial joining in a place that’s foreign and different and exotic and new territory for us.
And new territory for everyone! Not to mention Costa Rica is just gorgeous! There’s so much to do that it’ll be a fun vacation for everyone who comes down with us!
So book your flight, pack your bags, and grab your passport to join us for a celebration of love among those we love in our lives! The adventure is about to begin!
Why Costa Rica The Real Story
Sharon and her friend Laurie visited Costa Rica for a week in 2002. Laurie loved it so much she bought a house on the beach in southern Costa Rica.
When Sharon visited Laurie in New York City in April of 2005 mere months after Alex and Sharon began dating, mind you Laurie suggested that if Sharon was going to ever marry Alex that we do it at her place, on the beach in Costa Rica.
After Sharon came home she threw the idea out there to Alex, partially to see how serious he really was about her, partially to see how open he was to new ideas, as he claims. Alex thought for a moment and then said “Sure, why not?!” Sharon’s eyes got big, both smiled, they kissed, and then the planning took over Costa Rica would kick off the adventure called marriage and be the host to our wedding!
Why Costa Rica The Reality
Sharon quickly realized that a wedding at Laurie’s place would be fantastic, but not very feasible. Roads in many parts of Costa Rica are just getting developed, often leaving much to be desired. The Caribbean town where Laurie’s place is located requires both effort and determination to reach. Trying to guide 50 friends and family members to a remote location made Sharon take a step back and look elsewhere.
Sharon smartly selected three areas in Costa Rica for potential wedding sites southern Nicoya Peninsula, Arenal, and Osa Peninsula which she and Alex scouted out in April, 2006. Like Goldilocks, Sharon and Alex found spots in Osa to be too hard to get to, and in Nicoya too soft on activities for guests, but Arenal was just right with everything at your doorstep!
Arenal is a small, mountain town with paved, two-lane roads winding around an active volcano to various hotels and places to do fun activities. After looking at several sites to get hitched we found our place in a beautiful oasis nestled in the lush hillside of the Lost Iguana Resort. We met the owner, Elaine Knight of Houston, Texas, and after chatting with her our minds were made up that the Lost Iguana was the paradise we had been seeking!
